Spirituality
Spirituality is a core component to ‘living life in all its fullness’ as the mind, body and soul needs to be nurtured equally. It relates to fundamental questions about the meaning and purpose of life which affect everyone and is not dependant on a religious belief.
At Shustoke we encourage the spiritual development of pupils includes developing their:
• ability to be reflective about their own beliefs (religious or otherwise) and perspective on life
• knowledge of, and respect for, different people’s faiths, feelings and values
• sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them
• use of imagination and creativity in their learning • willingness to reflect on their experiences.
During a Space Makers collective worship of noticing the children drew around their hands and were invited to label the fingers according to the five-finger noticing, namely:
Thumb – what has been good?
Index – Where have I seen God/profound goodness?
Middle – What stands out? Headline?
Ring/Fourth – Where have I been weak, less than my best self?
Little – What small thing could I do to rebalance?
Each person was invited to reflect on each aspect.
