A New Beginning - September 2025
The start of the school year is always a special time, full of opportunities for fresh beginnings. It is a new year and a new term, with many children settling into new classes or meeting new teachers, and some children starting school for the very first time. We are delighted to welcome our new pupils to the school community and look forward to seeing them grow and flourish.
Time for reflection:
As we light this candle, let’s think about what we have heard and how it affects us.
Let’s think of one thing that we would like to have a fresh start for this year. It could be taking up a new hobby, helping a friend in need, speaking kind words, trying hard at spellings, being more patient, reading more - the list is endless!
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for new beginnings.
Thank you that we can start afresh this year.
Help us to achieve the things that we hope for in this coming year.
Thank you.
Amen.
Week Beginning 22nd September 2025
This week, Reverend Mark led our Collective Worship with a thoughtful reflection on Harvest. He encouraged us to consider where our everyday foods come from and highlighted the vital role that cereals, especially wheat, play in our diets.
In the UK, wheat begins to ripen in July and August, transforming from vibrant green to a rich golden hue. Once ready, it’s harvested and transported in trailers to be safely stored. From there, it takes different paths—some wheat is milled into flour for baking, while some is used to produce popular breakfast cereals like Shredded Wheat.
Reverend Mark reminded us how important it is to appreciate the journey our food takes—from field to fork—and to be thankful for the farmers and producers who make it all possible.
O Lord my God, how great you are! (Psalm 104.1)
- From the sky, you send rain on the hills, and the earth is filled with your blessings. You make grass grow for the cattle and plants for us to use, so that we can grow our crops and produce wine to make us happy, olive oil to make us cheerful and bread to give us strength. (Psalm 104.13-15)
- Lord, you have made so many things! How wisely you made them all! The earth is filled with your creatures. (Psalm 104.24)
- All of them depend on you to give them food when they need it. You give it to them, and they eat it; you provide food, and they are satisfied. (Psalm 104.27-28)
- I will sing to the Lord all my life; as long as I live, I will sing praises to my God. (Psalm 104.33)
Prayer
Creator God,
Thank you for the different cereals that we enjoy.
Help us to start each new day by being thankful.
Amen.
Together we considered the impact that positivity can have on our lives.
Christians believe that this verse in Matthew 7.12 is a good principle to follow: ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you.’
We all experience times when we feel sad, and we need to talk to someone who will care for us and help us. However, we need to remember that our positive attitudes towards each other can make a big difference. Let’s be people who encourage others and make them feel good about themselves.
Sometimes, when we’re feeling negative, it can be a good time to try something new. Maybe we could get a friend to join a new club with us!
There’s a saying that goes like this: ‘If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.’
We have all tried hard this week to say good things that build people up and encourage them to keep going.
